South Africa

Almost anything you care to do is possible in South Africa. South Africa is one of the most diverse and enchanting countries in the world. Exotic combinations of landscapes, people, history and culture offer a unique and inspiring experience. South Africa is a heady mix of third and first world cultures - along with the best and least crowded beaches in the world. Throw in wildlife parks such as the Kruger National Park, Eight World Heritage Sites, beautiful natural scenery, a great infrastructure and a stable post-apartheid environment and you have a great destination waiting to happen.
Often described as the 'Rainbow Nation', South Africa is a vast land of overwhelming beauty and spectacular contrasts. It is a country that positively celebrates life in the great outdoors - a place for spotting the Big Five on a luxury safari, followed by campfire sundowners in a luxury lodge. The coastline is extraordinarily beautiful, magnificent mountains tumbling down to the white sand beaches of the Garden Route, whilst the fertile valleys of the Cape Winelands, with their Dutch manor houses and immaculately tended vines, offer a complete change of scene. For scuba diving and deep-sea fishing, choose KwaZulu Natal, also renowned for its battlefields and golf courses. Or why not opt for a luxury holiday to Cape Town and enjoy the very best of city chic.
South Africa has one of the highest daily sunshine rates in the world and being in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are opposite to ours. Ideal for a winter escape from the UK to the sun! Generally, summer stretches from October to April, this time of the year is characterised by hot weather - sunny days, balmy evenings and the occasional afternoon thunderstorm. In and around Cape Town and the Garden Route the climate is typically Mediterranean so the summer is warm and dry. Cape Town receives most of its rain during winter (June to August) but even so, winter in the city is fairly mild with average temperatures of 18C. May to November is the best time for whale watching along the Cape coast and in the Northern Game Reserves, winter days are crisp, dry and sunny with cold (snugly) nights (average daily temperature 23C) which is ideal for game viewing. If you are staying at a private game lodge however, experienced rangers and trackers will ensure that you have a superb game viewing experience, no matter what time of the year you are travelling. Springtime is renowned in the Cape for the multitude of colourful plants that appear to cover the fields in a radiant carpet of flowers. The most popular areas of South Africa are a hive of activity over Christmas and New Year, as the locals make their annual journeys to coastal towns and beaches - they are lucky enough to have it all in one country. February and the Autumn months are ideal for travelling this beautiful country as little rain falls, temperatures stay mild without being too hot and the beaches are less crowded.
Even better - South Africa is closer than you think. Only 10ish hours flying time and with most flights leaving in the evenings you fly overnight and arrive early the next morning. South Africa is only an hour ahead during the UK summer and two hours during the winter - so there's no jetlag to disorientate you on your arrival (or on your return). In addition in South Africa they drive on the same side of the road as the UK and English is widely spoken which makes getting around straight-forward. The value of the Pound against the South African Rand undoubtedly makes it one of the best - value for money - destinations anywhere in the world. Contemporary stylish hotels, historic Cape Dutch wine estates, quaint sea-side villages and luxurious private game lodges beautifully designed to blend in with the natural bush - not to mention the superb food and wine - all combine to offer a holiday experience beyond belief.
South Africa also offers you the opportunity to extend your holiday and incorporate one or more of it's exciting neighbours; take a trip to the largest desert dunes in the world and visit NAMIBIA; experience one of the 7 wonders of the world and see the breath-taking Victoria Falls from either the ZAMBIAN or ZIMBABWEAN side; experience some of the most unspoiled beaches in the world - barefoot luxury in MOZAMBIQUE or go on a Horse-back Safari in the spectacular game laden country of BOTSWANA.
South Africa will be the host nation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup
